Last week I travelled to Turkey to source my autumn/ winter 2019 pashminas. Yes I am ahead of the game especially this early in the year In March! I like to call turkey the land of textiles as there are little haberdashery shops tucked around every corner, as well as carpet shops and Turkish delight!
I have been buying stock and supplies from Turkey for as long as I can remember. The quality is outstanding and sometimes you find really unusual bits and pieces which you just cant help but buy! More times then not they will sit in a draw for a long time but it's usually a case of for that price I have to have it and ten! Over the years I have collected weird and wonderful wool, trimmings iron on embellishments, beads, you name it I have bought it!
Just to share how amazing these little shops are here are some pictures I have taken.
My photos do not do these little places justice at all but I can give you my word they are amazing! Especially if you are into sewing and making pretty things like I am. I say It is haberdashery heaven!
When you go into some of the shops you feel like you are stepping back in time, some are very old world if that is even a word! I have been in amazing shops where there is shelving from floor to ceiling with wooden sliding ladders that makes it easy to climb up and reach the top shelves full of materials! It might sound silly but there is something so charming and magical about these places. Unfortunately the Turks see it as old fashioned and have started to re vamp there pretty little shops which I think is such a shame because they just don't hold the same charm but I guess everything has to move with the times at some point....
